The Organ Mountain Cooperative, dba Mountain View Market, plays a vital role in providing quality organic and natural foods to health-conscious people living in the Mesilla Valley of southern New Mexico.

Our History:

In 1975 on the NMSU campus, a group of health-conscious students decided to pool their resources and create a buying club so they could purchase whole foods at bulk prices. They coordinated their buying and divided their bulk orders accordingly. It was the right idea at the right time and quickly the operation became so large that it was more practical to open a store: a place where members could buy the wholesome products they needed without the hassle of distributing large purchases. So, they set forth and transformed a little home on Foster Rd into the original Organ Mountain Cooperative. The store was managed by a driven group of individuals who decided upon store policy and set a goal to offer the best health-food products they could to the community. That goal and drive has remained intact through two moves, multiple store expansions, and continues to be the backbone of our business.

Since its creation, the Organ Mountain Co-Op has gone through many stages of reinvention, including multiple name changes. But, through all of it we’ve kept true to cooperative values and today our store is run by knowledgeable staff members who are passionate and committed to growth and success. Community members often volunteer and due to our emphasis on supporting the local economy, many local farmers and artisans are finding our business to be a great place to sell their wares. We continue to strive for excellence, working to offer the best and highest quality shopping experience possible. Please stop by sometime and share in the cooperative lifestyle.
